Are fish and chips healthy?

Mmmm… Who doesn’t love a freshly made, just cooked fish and chip supper? But, even though fish and chips are the nation’s favourite takeaway food, are fish and chips healthy? And how does it compare to other ‘food on the go’ choices?

Well, you’ll be pleased to know that fish and chips are a great takeaway food choice. In fact, it’s even better than a BLT! You may be getting a little lettuce and tomato on your takeaway BLT, but did you know that the bacon and dressings are often loaded with fat and extra salt? Even a takeaway salad can be packed with hidden calories when they come with dressings and sauces laden with oil. And let’s not forget those added preservatives and other unpronounceable ingredients you’ll find on the back of the packs…

Here at Pete’s, what you see is what you get. Our fresh, seasonal potatoes are peeled, chipped and cooked in vegetable oil in small batches so they have that ‘just cooked’ taste, whilst our fish is delivered daily from approved suppliers who supply sustainable, fresh produce. You’ll be pleased to discover that your portion of fish provides vitamin C, vitamins B6 and B12, and a whole host of other nutritional goodies such as iron, zinc, calcium, iodine and omega-3 fatty acid to name a few! Oh and let’s not forget your chips – they’re cut thick so they absorb less fat, and potatoes are packed with potassium – even more potassium than a banana! Add a portion of peas (full of vitamin A, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, etc.,) and you can feel confident that you’re having a delicious meal that’s not only full on flavour, but full of vitamins too!

So, next time you want a meal on the go, come to Pete’s – and don’t forget to keep an eye on all our latest offers and new, extra value lunch meal deals coming very soon.
